The Cardiac Centre of Ethiopia provides basic personnel for operations. However, there are no trained providers to provide the surgeries for the treatment of rheumatic heart valve disease (RHVD) which is caused by untreated rheumatic Fever (RF) that develops from untreated episodes of streptococcal pharyngitis, commonly known as strep throat. The idea behind this tremendous effort is twofold:  perform lifesaving surgeries, and teach the local staff of doctors and nurses, so they eventually become self-sufficient. The Great Falls team, led by Rotarian Dr. Roberto Amado-Cattaneo has a five year plan to do 12 to 15 surgeries a year, hopefully saving 60 to 75 lives and at the end have a solid team of local Ethiopian surgeons and nurses capable to perform these surgeries.

Please join us and support this team in their life-saving cardiac surgery for children.
