Celebrate US!

Think of it: 100 years ago we began as a club. Within two years, we had Camp Rotary in the making. We gathered in peace and in war, in depression and prosperity, without women and with them. We took on a unique youth camp, a peace park, and polio. Decade after decade, we grew as a club and as Rotarians we changed the course of history - in our community, in our state, and in the world.

On Friday, March 4, we celebrate all that we have been for 100 years and all that we are today. It's a moment in time that only comes once.

Join us and bring whomever you like to our 100 Years Celebration on the evening of Friday, March 4, at the country club. The night wouldn't be complete without YOU!

This Week at Rotary

We hear many stories about the various kids' groups that use Camp Rotary for their activities, but perhaps none are more touching than the stories about Camp Francis. Camp Francis is dedicated to providing children who have lost a loved one with the opportunity to interact with other children who are also grieving and to take part in healing activities with caring adults. Join us at noon on Tuesday at the country club for the presentation on Camp Francis. You'll feel proud once again of the good we do as Rotary Club of Great Falls.

Last Week at Rotary

Last week Omba Nganbu gave us an update on the humanitarian project in the Congo undertaken by the Rivers of the World (ROW) organization. Founded in 1995 by Reverend Ben Mathes to tackle critical needs of unreached parts of the world, ROW has sent hundreds of short-term mission teams to remote communities around the world.

The teams provide medical aid, build infrastructure through construction projects, and provide education in the form of vacation bible schools and trade schools for children and adults.

Because of its extreme poverty, the Congo has been an area of focus for ROW for over 20 years.  Partnering with churches, indigenous organizations, local leadership, and other US nonprofits, Rivers of the World is seeking to help the Congolese advance as a healthy, sustainable community of faith.

Rotarians ... Are Winners!

The suspense is over.

With fewer than 10 cards left in the deck, last week Todd Neighbor drew the much-coveted King of Spades to win the long-contested 50-50 pot of over $225.

Half of the pot, as usual, goes to Polio Plus, and in keeping with tradition, Todd donated the other half to his favorite Great Falls Rotary Club project - in this case, Dr. Cattaneo's work in Ethiopia.

Thank you, Todd!

Milestones

Another slate of stellar Rotarian birthdays this week:
  • Brett Doney - Wednesday, Feb. 17
  • Scott Patera - Friday, Feb. 19
  • Chelle Fried - Saturday, Feb. 20
Best wishes to all three of you for a happy, healthy, and prosperous next year!

Weekly Wisdom on Valentine's Day: True Love

True love, to me, is when she's the first thought that goes through your head when you wake up and the last thought that goes through your head before you go to sleep.

True love comes quietly, without banners or flashing lights. If you hear bells, get your ears checked.

True love doesn't happen right away; it's an ever-growing process. It develops after you've gone through many ups and downs, when you've suffered together, cried together, laughed together.
