Next week we'll be treated to "A Visit with the Nomadic Herders of the Darkhad Valley in Mongolia." Dr. Curtis Settergreen will be our presenter. Join us Tuesday at noon on Zoom! President Yturri will send the links by email.
Last Week in Rotary
Fellow Rotarian Thom Trunkle was our presenter for last week's meeting, telling Rotarians gathering on Zoom about the fly-fishing clinics offered by the Ursuline Centre this August and September. (There's additional information on their website at ursulinecentre.com.)
Why clinics on fly-fishing? The Ursuline Centre has been a popular segment for the Road Scholar Educational Travel for Adults Tours for the past 10 years. Using the Ursuline Center as a base, the tourists get to see Fort Benton, First Peoples Buffalo Jump, the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, local art and history museums, and much more.
The Road Scholar approached the Ursuline Centre to see if they would consider offering a fly-fishing adventure as well. Before the Center rolls it out to the tour company next year, they want to "work out the kinks" this summer. They've partnered with many local businesses and recruited Shalon Hastings to teach the clinic. They will be limiting the class sizes, so if you're interested, sign up soon!
The Ursuline Center is a gathering place for many clubs, seminars, and retreats. If you haven't had a chance to tour the building, reach out to Thom, as it is one of Great Falls' historic treasures.
Update
The Bylaws Committee, consisting of Mary Moe, Bill Bronson and Mike Rausch, has begun the process of reviewing the bylaws, which will include a recommendation on how to proceed with the evening membership option.
Mary and Bill met with the board last Tuesday to go over the current bylaws and options for changes. The board asked great questions and will need some time to mull over the options. In the meantime, the Bylaws Committee will be reviewing the club constitution and bringing it into alignment with the Rotary International template. Their hope is to secure authorization of the updated constitution in June and present bylaws changes for the membership to approve in July.
Keep on Smiling!
Anne Frank once wrote, “I don’t think of all the misery but of the beauty that still remains.” As we enter the third month of the COVID-19 pandemic, Rotarians were doing the same thing. During Happy Moments last week:
Art Taft reported that his sister had been very sick with the coronavirus, but, thankfully, has recovered.
Mark Finnicum thanked Bill Bronson and Mary Moe for their dedication to our public schools, which contributed to the passage of much-needed funding for local schools last week.
Shannon Hoiland was pleased to report that Benefis broke ground on the new Women's and Children's Center last week.
John Juras reminded us that a primary election is coming up and asked that everyone to please vote.
Gregg Holt beamed with pride as he reported that his granddaughter just graduated from Concordia College. Bob Holter had similar good news: His granddaughter just received her doctorate in Psychology.
Jim Humphrey said that Ryan Miller is recovering well. We're so glad, Ryan!
Important reminders that, even in difficult times, we have so much to be grateful for!
Milestones
Best wishes to long-time members Mark Finnicum on May 18 and Ryan Miller on May 19. What a gift each of you have been to Rotary Club of Great Falls! May that gift be returned ten-fold in the years ahead!
