Great Falls Students Madelyn Hart, Aletta Hagan, and Ava Bloomgren presented on the LIFT Program, which is a class that meets twice a week, partners with school counselors, and provides outreach to students. LIFT stands for listen, inspire, foster trust. The goals of this program include reducing the stigma around mental health, learning and teaching others healthy coping strategies, practicing gratitude with intention, and recognizing suicide warning signs and suicide prevention through QPR. QPR stands for question, persuade, and refer. The students learn how to identify their peers who are possibly experiencing problems with their mental health, ask them important questions, and refer students to licensed counselors within the school district. They have an active social media presence to spread positivity and resources. They provided training to 150 sixth grade students, teaching them the importance of mental health and on mindfulness and coping strategies. They have also lead suicide prevention training to Touro medical students. The Rotarians this week were very impressed with these students! They request that ways that we can support them include being a champion for kindness and positivity, through community QPR trainings, and by donating personal care items.
