This week Dr. Jonathan Bingham will return to give us Part II of his talk on Aeromedical Evacuation. He's a good speaker and it's an interesting topic, so join us at noon at the country club!
Last Week at Rotary
Last week we got the official report on Harvest Howl 2016 from Mike Wier, Tom Nelson, and others. As reported previously, our net proceeds were significantly lower than in our record-setting 2015 year. To get a performer of Don Felder's caliber, we had to move the date two months earlier and pay more for the talent. The fact that two other major events were occurring in Great Falls that particular weekend also played a role in cutting into our profits.
Nonetheless, we have much to celebrate. The Harvest Howl brand - "the" fall event in Great Falls - remains strong. The high-quality music and the consistently high quality of the silent auction and dessert auction will continue to keep this event top of mind for Montana fun-lovers. Again, thanks to all who make this event possible!
Kizer Earns Blue Badge
We welcomed another member to blue-badge status at last week's Rotary meeting: Mindy Kizer.
Mindy is the Director of Human Resources for the Great Falls Public Schools, charged with overseeing the hiring, professional development and disciplinary processes and policies for some 1,100 employees in our local school district.
Mindy had previously worked in human resources at Davidson Companies an, as a former math teacher herself, has an understanding of the educational environment of her employees.
Mindy was sponsored by Beth McFadden.
Pick Up Your Dictionaries This Week!
Dictionaries will be distributed at this week's regular Rotary meeting. Please contact Denise Gray at dgrayrealty@gmail.com if you need to make alternative arrangements.
Milestones
Last week we also recognized three of our members who have been Rotarians for 50 years or more: Ian Davidson, Judge Bob Holter, and Bob Oakland. While their service as Rotarians is remarkable in quantity, it's even more remarkable in quality. Each one of them, in his own unique way, has left an indelible mark on our club. Kudos to all three!
Weekly Wisdom on Laughter
He deserves Paradise who makes his companions laugh. — The Koran
He who laughs, lasts! — Mary Pettibone Poole
In this world, a good time to laugh is any time you can. — Linda Ellerbee
If you wish to glimpse inside a human soul and get to know the man, don’t bother analyzing his ways of being silent, of talking, of weeping, or seeing how much he is moved by noble ideas; you’ll get better results if you just watch him laugh. If he laughs well, he’s a good man…All I claim to know is that laughter is the most reliable gauge of human nature. — Feodor Dostoyevsky
