How Can We Improve?

Have you completed the membership satisfaction survey yet?

In response to a request by President-elect Cari Yturri, evening Rotarian Zach Swartz has created a membership satisfaction survey to do just that. We're looking for ideas and opportunities to grow as a club. Please take a few minutes of your time to participate in the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/5ZVZQXB.

Last Week in the Evening

Braving the snow and the cold last Thursday, our evening Rotarians gathered at the country club to learn more about Rotary. President-Elect Nominee Lacey Gallagher told the evening members about the Paul Harris Fellowships.

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation. The recognition began in 1957 and some illustrious Paul Harris Fellows include former President Jimmy Carter and polio vaccine scientist Jonas Salk. Our club has 45 Paul Harris Fellows, nearly half of our membership!

The “bulletin bucks” number this week is #187. If that’s the number on the back of your Rotary button, contact President Todd Neighbor to claim your $25 prize.

Next Week at Rotary

Next week at noon Lorraine Verploegen will tell us about the Plant a Seed Read program. Join us at noon at the country club!

There is no evening Rotary meeting next week.

Last Week at Noon

Last week Susan Weber was our featured presenter, telling us about child abuse and the role Toby’s House plays in that problem.

Susan is the Chief Deputy Attorney for Cascade County, and in that capacity, she prosecutes or oversees the prosecution of perpetrators of child abuse and child sexual assault. She shared stories from numerous cases her department has prosecuted, but observed that we talk too much about the perpetrators in these cases and not enough about the victims. The trauma in children, whether from abuse or assault, goes deep and continues long after the case itself is resolved.

Toby’s House Crisis Nursery is committed to the prevention of child abuse and neglect by providing immediate refuge and safety for children. Susan is actively working on the Board of Toby's House because she knows how important a crisis nursery is for parents or caregivers who need help and not questions about why they cannot take care of their child. She encouraged us to go to their FB page or to https://tobyshousemt.org/ for more information.

Milestones

Is anybody NOT having a birthday this week? The first week of March brings quantity AND quality:
  • March 2 - Carey Gray, creative, dedicated, the essence of "service above self."
  • March 3 - Michael Bowman, always gracious, always kind.
  • March 5 - Dave Crum, who exemplifies what is great about Great Falls
  • March 5 - Lacey Gallagher ... beyond description (but see Weekly Wisdom, below, and pick a quote)
  • March 5 - Bill Knick, intelligent, witty, shining with a heart of gold
  • March 7 - Bob Jorgensen, one of our earliest and most generous Rotarians
Wow: When it comes to Rotarians, March comes in like a lion.

Weekly Wisdom: Women as Leaders

As we hunker down for the coldest day of the year, our President-elect, Cari Yturri, is accepting warm applause at the regional level. On behalf of the club, she accepted the New Membership Award in recognition of our enrolling 20 new members in the past 6 months! (That's pretty impressive, club: Good job!)

With Cari stepping up to the club president plate and Lacey Gallagher on deck, we should also pat ourselves on the back for the amazing women we've placed in leadership roles. It's quite an impressive list. Choose for yourself the Rotary woman each of these quotations calls to mind:

Presenting leadership as a list of carefully defined qualities … no longer holds. Instead, true leadership stems from individuality that is honestly and sometimes imperfectly expressed…. Leaders should strive for authenticity over perfection.
Sheryl Sandberg

Remember no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
Eleanor Roosevelt

A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but ought to be.
Rosalynn Carter

True leaders understand that leadership is not about them but about those they serve. It is not about exalting themselves but about lifting others up.
Sheri L. Dew

The leadership instinct you are born with is the backbone. Then you develop the funny bone and the wishbone that go with it.
Elaine Agather
