Bob Quinn from Quinn Institute came to Rotary this week to talk about Regenerative Organic Agriculture. He is also a Rotarian in Big Sandy and invited us to his meetings on Monday nights.
He brought us all Kamut snacks. For his organic farming there are no herbicides or pesticides. No poisons in land, hence none in food. He focuses on high nutritious seeds and rotates his crops.
In 1963 at the Fort Benton Choteau County Fair someone gave him Kamut ancient wheat seeds supposedly from a tomb. He started harvesting Kamut Wheat then. In 1977 when corn nuts came out he approached them about packaging kamut. They asked for more than he had. When he did have the amount he came back 5 years later and the person was gone. He then went to a food show in Anaheim in 1986 and then 30 years later is where they are now. Wheat sensitive people have been known to be able to eat kamut wheat.
He went to Egypt and Turkey. Another legend besides coming from an ancient tomb is that Noah brought it on his ark. This is fun little trivia that can't be validated.
