Volunteers Needed!

Please check your schedules to see if you are available to make it out to Camp Rotary Monday (tomorrow) morning. Ken Munski, Bill Knick and Gaines McFadden will be there and need some help moving beds out of the 5 cabins that are being replaced.  They will be at the camp Monday morning at 8:00 and plan on leaving before noon.

If you need further information, call President Colin Lee at 406-403-1931.

Last Week at Rotary

Last week we learned about the Building Active Communities Initiative from Erin Merchant (left), Abigail Lichliter (center) and Kim Skornogofski (right).

BACI is part of the “Imagine Great Falls” effort, which has reached out to community members to revitalize our home town. Using the Project for Public Spaces template, the initiative recognizes that great places to live appeal to our need for sociability, to be useful and active, to feel comfortable in our space and to have access to one another in the process. An example of a community activity that appeals to all of these needs is Farmers Market.

Like Get Fit Great Falls, BACI is finding ways to motivate people to get out and get active. They are experimenting with various activities, such as the “sidewalk checkers game” at Davidson Plaza during the Sidewalk Sale this summer. They’re upgrading crosswalks and lining up food trucks as a regular feature in the near future. They’re also exploring the advantages of using streets not just for cars but for people, like the walking mall on Last Chance Gulch in Helena, and redesigning parking lots for multiple uses.

Rotarians were given surveys to help the initiative get new ideas and feedback from the community. It's always nice to see groups who are working hard to make Great Falls an even greater place to live.

Don't Forget: This Week at Rotary

There will be no meeting at the country club at noon on August 30. Instead, we're enjoying one another's company in the VIP booth at the Voyagers game. See you there!

Welcome, New Members!

We’ve received three new applications for membership this month:

•    Megan Connors is a CPA at Anderson ZurMuehlen & Co.  She is sponsored by Tony DiLello.
•    Rhonda Carlson directs the Airman and Family Readiness Center at  Malmstrom AFB. She is sponsored by Rob Rezek.
•    Anthony (Tony) Aretz is the new President of the University of Great Falls. Beth McFadden is his sponsor.

Please take the time to introduce yourself to these aspiring Rotarians and welcome them to Rotary Club of Great Falls!

Milestones

Happy birthday on Wednesday to Rebecca Bogden-Richards! Also, a belated happy birthday to our song leader, Art Taft, who put another candle on the cake last Thursday.
