Last week was a time for going back to our roots. First, we were reminded of the work that Rotary Foundation does and encouraged to participate once again in Every Rotarian Every Year. Every year at this time, we ask club members to donate $100 to the Rotary Foundation so that that our international organization can continue to do its important work. Members received an emailed invoice after the meeting. Please contribute if you can!
We also celebrated Harvest Howl 2015, our fundraiser for Camp Rotary. Shown here are Mike Wier and Tom Nelson, who are so active in heading up the Howl, and Ken Munski and Bill Knick, from our Rotary Foundation Committee. They are holding a check for $70,000 - our profits from Harvest Howl 2015. This amount not only sets a new record, but leaves the old record in the dust!
Thanks to all of you who do so much to make our club so outstanding.
This Week in Rotary
Lots going on this week! The featured presenter at our weekly meeting will be Dr. Jonathon Bingham, who will tell us about the history of aeromedical evacuation. Join us at noon at the country club!
The monthly board meeting will also take place on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at L'Heureux Page Warner. All members are welcome to attend.
Finally, our monthly Rotary Social will be Wednesday after 5 p.m. at The Front. Let's enjoy some holiday cheer in the companionship of fellow Rotarians!
Rotarians Shine!
Whose familiar face graces the cover of the December/January issue of What Women Want magazine? It's none other than fellow Rotarian Carey Gray!
Carey was one of five local women whose volunteer work is the focus of the featured article in the popular local magazine. Carey began volunteering when she was teaching in Wolf Point and has been volunteering ever since. One of her major activities is serving meals at the Great Falls Rescue Mission. She finds the diners there "so polite and positive.... If I had a bad day at work, it makes me feel so much better."
Carey also volunteers for Homeless Connect, a project spearheaded by the Dental Hygiene students at Great Falls College MSU. And as we all know, when Rotary needs volunteers, Carey's hand always goes up.
Congratulations, Carey, on recognition well-deserved!
It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like ....
Yes, like Christmas. Keep these dates in mind:
On Saturday, Dec. 12, Rotary Club of Great Falls will ring bells for the Salvation Army. Contact Virginia Stacey for details.
On Tuesday, Dec. 15, we'll have our Holiday Luncheon upstairs at the country club. The East Middle School Band will provide the entertainment. Please come to this week's meeting with the number of guests you plan to bring.
Also, second notice for these two new members:
Shannon Hoiland of First Interstate Bank has presented her application for re-instated membership in the club. She has already proven herself as a valuable member and it will be great to have her back in the fold, bringing our male:female ratio more into balance.
John Juras of TD&H Engineering has also applied for membership. John has been very active in the community. He's on the board of the River's Edge Trail Foundation and the Great Falls Bicycle Club. In addition, he's a guardian ad litem for CASA CAN. His sponsor is President Tim Peterson. Welcome, John!
Milestones
December 1 marks two special occasions: the birthday of Vice President Colin Lee and the completion of 52 years as a Rotarian for Bob Oakland. Congratulations to you both!
