Last Week at Rotary

Last week Rotary Club of Great Falls had its annual changing of the guard. Last year's president, Dean Boyle, turned over the gavel to this year's president, Todd Neighbor.

In his parting remarks, Dean thanked the team he had around him and reminded the club that in Rotary, as in most things, nothing is done alone. The club is only as strong as each of its members.

Todd demonstrated right from the start that he will be well-prepared and well-organized. He had every detail of the meeting lined up in advance and rolled through the installation ceremony expeditiously, but graciously.

Colin Lee, now the past Past-President, goes off the board. Thank you, Colin, for all your years of service above self. Your integrity and humility will be great missed. New on the board this year is Heidi Hockett. We look forward to getting to know her better in her leadership role.

What's Next?

Our planned speaker for next week had to cancel, but with last week's approval for piloting an evening membership option, there's much to discuss this week at Rotary.  Our leadership will discuss the board's goals, as outlined later in this newsletter and answer questions about the pilot project. Each board member will talk about his or her responsibilities and planned activities for the next year ... and how YOU can help!

Join us at noon at the country club.

A Little Quiz

Can you identify these pictures from Rotary news last week?  If so, you've been paying attention at meetings and on our Facebook page. Good for you!

Milestones

Last week Rotary Club of Great Falls witnessed an amazing milestone: one of our officers was sworn in holding her two-month-old baby.

We are blessed to have Megan Connors as a treasurer who not only manages our books expertly, but models the importance of striking a work-life balance. (Plus, that baby is the roundest, most satisfyingly healthy little two-month-old you'll ever see!)

This week, another Rotarian is celebrating a milestone of his own. On Monday, Fred Anderson completes another lap around the sun. Best wishes, Fred, for a happy day and a fulfilling year ahead.

This Week in History

Today the French celebrate Bastille Day, the day the French Revolution became official, some 13 years and 10 days after our own American Revolution was declared. Having experienced a severe food shortage dismissed by a seemingly uncaring monarchy, French peasants stormed the Bastille Prison, stole the arms there, beheaded the Governor, and rioted in the streets under the motto, "Liberty, Equality, Brotherhood."
