This Week at Noon Rotary

The Lions Club will be joining us this week for a presentation from Bob Rowe of Northwestern Energy. Join us for a timely presentation by a top-notch presenter and share fellowship with another great service club in Great Falls! Noon as usual at the country club.

This Week at Evening Rotary

Evening Rotarians will be touring Jeremiah Johnson Brewing Co. this Thursday ... and sampling some of its wares. Noon members are encouraged to join our evening members at 6 p.m. at the attractive west side location formerly known as The Front, 600 Third Ave. S.

Last Week at Noon Rotary

Sandy Filipowicz, executive director of the YWCA, was our featured presenter at last week's noon meeting of Rotary Club of Great Falls. The YWCA has recently revised its mission to clarify that the Y is dedicated to eliminating racism, as well as empowering women and their families.

As Martin Luther King, Jr., noted, we are all tied in the same garment of destiny. What affects one demographic affects us all. For that reason, eliminating racism elevates life for all of us, and the YWCA has intensified its efforts in that regard.

YWCA also wants to emphasize that they work with children as well as mothers. Domestic violence and sexual assault affect children too, and the Y is very focused on helping children to overcome trauma. They have programming for children as well as their mothers. They work to get them interested in STEM careers and are looking forward to sponsoring the first Boy Scouts of America troop in Great Falls that admits girls.

An EPA Brownfields grant, administered by Great Falls Development Authority, has funded much-needed asbestos abatement at the Y. A Community Development Block Grant is allowing the Y to install new flooring, so Sandy is excited about the new improvements to the facility.

Major fundraisers for the YWCA include the "Empty Bowls" event in September and the Rankin Run in October, which will be combined with the What Women Want event next year.

Let's Assemble! (Beds, That Is)

Ken Munski, Camp Rotary Board liaison to the Rotary Board of Directors, delivered some good news at last week's noon Rotary meeting. Sixteen beds and 20 mattresses were delivered to his workplace last week. More precisely, the parts for 16 beds were delivered. They need to be assembled and delivered to Camp Rotary, not necessarily in that order.

These beds will greatly expand our ability to accommodate larger groups of campers at Camp Rotary .... Please contact Ken if you can help.

This week's "bulletin bucks" number is 32. If that is the number on the back of your Rotary button, let President Todd Neighbor know you just won a cash card for $25!

Milestones

Two birthday celebrations on the same day this week! Join us in wishing the happiest of birthdays to Jeff Millhollin and Lois Spencer on Thursday, Jan. 24.

Weekly Wisdom: This Week in History

to live in this world
you must be able
to do three things

to love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;

and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go
