New members, for your planning, we'll have a New Member Orientation Monday, Oct. 26,  at 5:30 p.m. at L'Heureux Page Warner, 15 Fifth Street South. All members are encouraged to join them.

Last Week at Rotary

In a very full meeting last week, we began with Tyler Heinzen's three-minute talk. Tyler told us about the long and circuitous journey that brought him to Great Falls. An avid athlete who once played basketball at MSU-Billings and coached at MSU, Tyler leapt at the chance to manage the Scheel's store in Great Falls when the position opened up in 2013. Originally from Orange County, California, Tyler loves Montana and particularly enjoys Great Falls. Tyler is a bright and funny addition to our membership ranks. He should be donning a blue badge soon!

We also heard about the new welding facility and the expanded programming at Great Falls College MSU. The facility allows the college to respond to the local demand for welders by offering training from 7 a.m. to midnight every weekday. Opportunities exist for local high school students to complete their Certificate of Applied Science in welding just as they are completing their high school graduation requirements. Several of the students are female, preparing to do non-traditional work in a high-wage field. All good stuff!

Get Ready to Howl!

Our signature event, the Harvest Howl, is less than two weeks away. We've got big-draw bands and a budget to match, so we need to bring in the crowds and sell, sell, sell! Here's how you can help:
  • Table Sales. Tables are selling well, but we have 40 more tables to sell this year, so push your friends and colleagues to buy in!
  • Volunteer for Set-up and/or Take-down shifts. See Carey Gray.
  • Wine for baskets. Bring your wine for silent auction baskets to Rotary this week or next.

Rotarians Have Spirit!

The good works of Rotarians go far beyond the projects endorsed by Rotary. Early last week. Rotarians connected to Rocky Mountain Candy Company, US Bank, Gray Reality, and D.A. Davidson wrapped 35 Military Care Packages to send to our soldiers overseas. Rob Rezek and Denise Gray headed up the project.

Last Friday the giving continued as many Rotarians gathered to participate in United Way's Day of Caring, doing yard work for those who can't do it for themselves Our president, Tim Peterson, was caught doing this good work by the Great Falls Tribune.

And Carey Gray (pictured in red) showed true "spirit" by participating as a ghost in the Ghost Tours of historic downtown Great Falls. Service above self, as paranormal!

Milestones

On Tuesday new member Daniel Bruni, an attorney with the Church-Harris firm, one of the oldest businesses involved in Rotary, celebrates his birthday. Best wishes, Daniel, for a happy day and a happy new year!
