This Week in Rotary

This week our featured presentation will be on the Rotary Foundation. We'll also get some detailed results on what may well have been our most successful Harvest Howl to date.

Please note: Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, our end-of-the-month Rotary Social has been postponed until next week. Get the details in this bulletin next Sunday ... or join us at noon on Tuesday at the country club!

Last Week at Rotary

Last week we heard from two additional ranchers from the Malta area, this time on the subject of the Ranchers Stewardship Alliance. The RSA was formed several years ago to "help guide the change" as prairie conservation became an interest. Local ranchers work in partnerships with various nature groups, especially the Nature Conservancy, to identify and pursue projects of mutual interest.

RSA has been particularly active in grass-banking and in the Global Beef Sustainability Roundtable. Like the ranchers previously heard from, last week's presenters were skeptical of the expertise and impact of the American Prairie Reserve in Phillips County.

Rotarians Are ... Polished!

In his fascinating three-minute talk last week, new member Michael Duchemin gave us a glimpse into his interesting past and personality.

The current director of the Charles M. Russell Museum of Western Art came to Great Falls by a circuitous route. He earned a master's in history from Arizona State University and found himself very drawn to the history of the West. After he nailed the job interview with a proactive plan for management, he directed the Autry Center for American History for many years.

Autry, he told us, was the only person ever to be in the Top Ten in five different entertainment industries simultaneously, including film, live entertainment, broadcasting, and musical recording. He was a "New Deal cowboy," promoting the Roosevelt administration during the depression and war years.

When the top job at the CMR museum came up, Michael seized the opportunity to come to Great Falls and "polish the brand" of the Russell. He's a great addition to our club and our community!

New Members Announced

We are pleased to present two applicants for membership in Rotary Club of Great Falls:

Shannon Hoiland of First Interstate Bank has presented her application for re-instated membership in the club. She has already proven herself as a valuable member and it will be great to have her back in the fold, bringing our male:female ratio more into balance.

John Juras of TD&H Engineering has also applied for membership. John has been very active in the community. He's on the board of the River's Edge Trail Foundation and the Great Falls Bicycle Club. In addition, he's a guardian ad litem for CASA CAN. His sponsor is President Tim Peterson. Welcome, John!

Milestones

Happy birthday on Saturday to Brian Hoven! Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year!
