Last Week, This Week

Last week, a standing-room-only Rotary Club of Great Falls was treated to a presentation on small-town Montana basketball in the 1960s, delivered  by author Frank Spragg with great enthusiasm and a wealth of little-known facts. Mr. Spragg (pictured) has written a book on the subject and his affection for those he interviewed is endearing.

This week we’ll hear from two of our own, Chelle Feist and Mark Finnicum, on the subject of Toastmasters. With the reputation of that organization, we can expect to be riveted!  Join us an noon at the country club!

Two New Blue Badges Bestowed!

Last week, led by Glenn Lambert, we welcomed two members to blue-badge status.  Amy Beames, vice-president at Benefis Health System, was presented by her sponsor, Lacey Gallagher.  Amy is an accomplished young woman who visited Algeria on a service project in her youth and worked for Rep. Dennis Rehberg during his time in our nation’s capitol.  She has extensive experience in issues advocacy at the state and national levels and her commitment to service is laudable.

Daniel Bruni, presented by his sponsor, Tim Peterson, is also well-traveled. A native of New Orleans, he had the good fortune to meet a Fort Benton girl there and, as so often happens, their travels brought them back to the Golden Triangle. Daniel did his undergraduate work at LSU (go Tigers!) and received his law degree from Loyola University. He’s an attorney with the Church Harris firm. It's nice to have another attorney from Church Harris, a firm with a long tradition of Rotary participation, join our ranks.

Welcome, Amy and Daniel, to Rotary Club of Great Falls!

Dues Increase Proposed

At least week’s board meeting, the board approved a proposal to increase membership dues by $10 per Rotarian per quarter.  The proposal is a response to several increased costs, including RYLA camper fees, RI dues, and the dictionary project costs, but primarily reflects the $1 per meal increase in weekly luncheons, effective July 1, 2015.

Please note: In accordance with our bylaws and past practice, the increase must be approved by a majority of the membership at large.

Three New Members Announced

Rotary Club of Great Falls has received applications for membership from these three individuals:
  • David Cameron, Ph.D. in biology with 25 years' experience with Montana State University, has a resume that sparkles with achievement and good works.
  • Mark Nash is employed by Credit Associates and was recently installed as president of the state chapter of Healthcare Financial Management Association.
  • Rick Regh, a former Rotaract member from Missoula, recently graduated from the University of Montana School of Law. His previous studies in business, along with his law degree, will be highly valued at JCCS.
New members add to the vibrancy of our club. Please go out of your way to make these new Rotarians feel welcome.

Happy Birthday, Tim!

Tomorrow our incoming president, Tim Peterson, celebrates the completion of another year of life. Tim's contributions to Rotary Club of Great Falls have been substantial, especially in the area of recruiting new members, yet he is unfailingly unassuming, low-key, and just-plain-folks.

Tim, may your next year (and every year) be full of good health, great joy, and continued productivity! Thanks for all you do for Rotary Club of Great Falls.

Weekly Wisdom: For the New Granddad

We wish for the new child
A heart that can be beguiled by a flower
That the wind lifts as it passes
Over the grasses after a summer shower.
A heart that can recognize without the aid of eyes
The gifts the world holds for the wise.

When the storms break for him
May the trees shake for him their blossoms down.
In the night that he is troubled
Make a friend wake for him so that his time be doubled.
And at the end of all loving and love,
May the Good Lord above give him a crown.
