John Gass, formerly of CAT Graphics, was our featured speaker last week. Since his retirement, he's been working on a program to help substance abusers at the rescue mission continue their path to sobriety by offering work and training.
John offers opportunities in upholstery work and automotive detailing to folks who have completed their 28-day sobriety training and need to channel their efforts into meaningful and productive activities. It's inspiring to see another community member's dedication to service continuing beyond retirement.
Last week was also a big week for two Great Falls' Rotarians. Carrie Bennett-Yturri announced the sale of her family business, Bennett Motors, to Lithia and Mike Rausch celebrated in a Business After Hours event his new affiliation with the law firm of Browning Kaleczyc, Berry & Hoven. One chapter ends, a new one begins. Best wishes to both Rotarians as they turn to a new page.
This Week at Rotary
This week we'll get a chance to hear from our two mayoral candidates, current City Commissioner Bob Kelly and current Mayor Michael Winters. What a great way to get to know each man before we vote! Join us at noon at the country club!
Also on Tuesday, Rotary Club of Great Falls will conduct its monthly board meeting at L'Heureux Page Warner beginning at 4:30 p.m. All Rotarians are welcome to attend.
Getting Ready to HOWL!
Our signature event, the Harvest Howl is only a month away. There's lots to do, including:
Wine for baskets. Please bring a bottle of wine to Rotary, as wine baskets are popular silent auction items.
Silent auction items. We're still looking for attractive contributions to our silent auction. Contact Susan Wolff with your ideas.
Ticket and table sales. Have you bought yours yet?
Beverage servers. Rather than hire servers, this year we're looking for Rotarian volunteers. You will need to complete the TIPS Certification process, which involves a 2-hour class on Thurs., Oct 22 at 6 p.m. at 1108 Central Avenue, next to the Bridal Shoppe. Contact Nicole Michelotti to confirm your interest.
Rotarians Pass It On!
OK, we all pass it on. After all, the whole concept of "service above self" boils down to passing our good fortune on in the form of time, assets, and effort to improve others' lives. New Rotarians bring new talents for the club to pass on, and veteran Rotarians inspire newer members with the examples of their service.
Many of us are the children of Rotarians who passed on to us this ethic of service and the fellowship it brings to our lives. But how many of us can say we're also pressing our grandchildren from their earliest age to put "service above self"? We have photograph evidence that at least once of us does: Kurt Baltrusch. Pictured here is his granddaughter Charlotte, already sporting the Rotarian hat. She's a pistol, Kurt. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Milestones
Tomorrow Kevin Eckhardt celebrates his 5th anniversary as a Rotarian. Thanks for your service, Kevin! On Tuesday, Jim Humphrey celebrates another birthday, and on Saturday Cliff Garness does the same. Best wishes to you both for a happy and healthy new year!
