Last week's speaker
George Willett and his daughter Katie Boedecker gave an entertaining presentation on the 85th Anniversary of Showdown Ski Area. Locals started hiking up the hill in 1936 to slide down. Then named Kings Hill, the lodge was erected in 1940 along with a rope tow. In 1945 a ski club was founded and it was all down hill from then on. George says skiing is the most you can have with clothes on. Katie shared the purchase of a hotel in White Sulphur Springs to enhance skier experience and if a Federal land swap goes according to plan, the future may include a hotel at Showdown.
Member of the Week
Carey Gray shared her path to joining Rotary. As a new business owner, Carey faced a few challenges to get respect from the financial community. Kevin Clark not only listened to her, but invited her to join our club. Carey believes in service above self, as demonstrated by her involvement in our club as well as others in our community.
