We learned this week that Dean and Patty Boyle lost Patty's father, "Mac" McLaughlin, on January 10 after a short illness at Peace Hospice. Mac lived a full and giving life for 91 years beginning with his birth on Halloween and continuing through a distinguished career with an impressive life of service. You can read his lovely obituary at https://www.oconnorfuneralhome.com/obituaries/Harold-B--Mac-McLaughlin?obId=10550300#/obituaryInfo
A celebration of Mac's life will be on January 26 from 1:30-4:00 p.m. at the Heritage Inn. In the meantime, Dean and Patty, we hold you in our hearts.
This Week at Rotary
If the title of this week's noon presentation is any indication, we're in for a treat! In "Young Women and Fire," fellow Rotarian Kelley Aline will tell us about her stint with the Forest Service as a fire tower watchperson. She'll describe living in a lookout and fighting fire as part of the wildland firefighting program at the Job Corp.
If that isn't enough of a draw, Chelle Fried was the poor soul left lonely by the ten of diamonds in this week's 50-50 contest, so the deck is skinnier and your chances of winning are fatter. Join us at noon at the country club!
Monthly Social Coming Right Up!
Social Committee Chair Rebecca Bogden-Richards has planned a pre-party for the Super Bowl on Thursday, January 23, for our January social. Stay tuned to emails later this week for details!
Last Week at Rotary
Katrin Finch (left, in photo) and Rose Malisani (right) from the Montana State University Extension Agency were our featured speakers last week at the noon meeting.
As the local Agriculture Agent, Rose works with anyone who wants advice that is ag-related, from how to grow shelter belts to how to diagnose plant and animal diseases. She works with all the local 4-H livestock and horse clubs and promotes non-biased research for agriculture. Recently. research into hemp products has been an emphasis.
As the local Family and Consumer Science Agent, Katrin works with a number of programs such as family consumer sciences, foods and nutrition, health and wellness, family business support, and kinship navigation. In addition, she too supports all the local 4-H clubs.
While both women focus a tremendous amount of their time to the agriculture sector and the community in general, they love 4-H administration. There are 13 very active clubs in Cascade County, many of which have earned national 4-H awards for projects and performance. Thank you, Bill Salina, for arranging for and introducing such a fascinating presentation!
Milestones
This week begins and ends with Rotary birthdays. Today Bob Wigdorski blows out some candles and on Friday Jeff Milhollin, Lois Spencer, and Terri Voytoski do the same. Best wishes for a wonderful 2020 to all of you from all of us!
