Next week at noon Bill Harp will oversee our annual Eagle Scouts recognition luncheon. Join us at noon at the country club!
The Rotary Foundation Board will meet Tuesday, Feb. 25, directly after the noon meeting.
There will be no end-of-the-month social next week. Our social committee chair, Rebecca Bogden-Richards, is planning a combined March Madness/St. Patrick's Day celebration on March 17 instead. Stay tuned!
There will be no evening meeting this week.
Service above Self!
Leap year provides an extra day this year, and Great Falls Rotary will be spending it volunteering at the Great Falls Rescue Mission Women’s Shelter. Beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29, we'll be painting the sleeping rooms as part of the women’s shelter remodel project. If we get enough volunteers, we'll also paint the doors and trim. In addition to doing the painting, Rotary will be donating the paint. Join us at 317 Second Avenue South on the 29th!
Last Week in the Evening
Last week’s evening presentation featured fellow Rotarian Zach Swartz, who told us about the training he received through the University of Montana called” iLead Breakthrough Leadership.”
The intensive, 5-day leadership class featured internationally renowned trainers, in addition to UM’s business education leaders. They helped attendees understand their current leadership qualities, but also encouraged them to explore management practices other leaders have found effective.
Particular areas of focus were managing organizational change, sparking innovation, stimulating your network and building your personal brand. Fascinating stuff! Many Rotarians would love to know more about opportunities like this!
Last Week at Noon
Last week at noon Bill Bronson and former mayor Mike Winters reminded us of a relatively new but already beloved community asset, the Montana Veterans Memorial.
The memorial, Winters’ brainchild, was dedicated on Memorial Day 2006 to honor veterans, both living and deceased. Most people choose to honor their veterans by donating $225 to get a black granite tile included on the wall at the memorial. Others donate $350 to plant a tree in the park surrounding the memorial with a plaque at the base of the tree bearing the veteran’s name. Still others donate $2500 to honor a veteran with a bronze relief sculpture at the site.
The tile option is the most popular. Some 7500 tiles are already installed and only about 2200 remain.Although applications for a memorial are accepted at any time, the tiles are only installed twice a year. For more information, call Mike Winters at 454–9070.
