A Fond Farewell - A Hearty Hello

Last week we said good-bye to Tim Peterson as our 2015-2016 president and welcomed Colin Lee as our new leader.

Tim has led the club through an amazing year: a record-breaking Harvest Howl, a fabulous 100-year celebration, a significant milestone at Camp Rotary with the construction of four new cabins, and a remarkable grant award of over $4,000 for Dr. Cattaneo's Ethiopia project. In between, Tim has been unfailingly gracious, hard-working, welcoming to all, and charmingly low-key in his role.

"When I was growing up in Great Falls, the son of a railroad worker, the last thing I ever thought I'd be was the president of Rotary," Tim told us as he stepped down. "It's been such an honor."

As the standing ovation when he concluded his remarks demonstrated, the honor has clearly been ours. Thank you, Tim.

And now, Colin Lee. He has already demonstrated the qualities of a good leader and as this photo demonstrates, he has the potential to shine in the role and cast a long shadow! Thank you, Colin, for making this commitment to service above self.

A Salute to Our Board

Once a month and many times in between our board of directors meets to plan, organize, budget, and initiate all the activities that make our club so special. Last week outgoing president Tim Peterson recognized the board, and it was a helpful reminder of who these people are and what they do.

Last year's officer board members were Tim Peterson, President; Cheryl Crawley, Past President; President-Elect Colin Lee; President-Elect Nominee/Treasurer, Dean Boyle; and Carol Lindseth, Secretary. Other board members included Kurt Baltrusch, Ken Munski, Cari Yturri, Rob Rezek, Todd Neighbor, Bill Harp, and Amy Beames.

Thank you, board members, for all the time and expertise you have devoted - and continue to devote - to Rotary Club of Great Falls! We couldn't do it without you.

This Week at Rotary

We're in for a treat this week. Jim Strauss, publisher of the Great Falls Tribune, will tell us about the challenges newspapers face as they go digital. Should be fascinating! Last week Kurt Baltrusch left the new 50-50 deck for future generations, so come buy a ticket, learn a little, and take a moment to enjoy our friendships this week at the country club!

Howl, Anyone?

Just a reminder that in order to snag Don Felder, formerly of the Eagles, we had to move the date for Harvest Howl up two months. It's Friday, Sept. 9, and it's going to be totally sold out, so you need to reserve a table NOW! We have a newly refreshed website, harvest howl.com, and you're going to love how easy it is to reserve a table. Do it.

Also on tap for Harvest Howl this year, after a year's hiatus, are the ever-popular Clintons. We're talking sold out. Best ever. Dance till you drop.

Also, it's time to roll up your sleeves. How can you help? Ask Mike Wier.

Milestones

This Saturday marks another birthday for Fred Anderson. Best wishes, Fred, for a happy, healthy and productive new year of life!

A Heartfelt Thank-You

Dear Rotary,

Words cannot express what this special space called Camp Rotary means to us.

You give us the opportunity to create a healing space that is safe, warm and wonderful for our campers.

Your work is amazing.

Camp Francis

P.S.: We love the new cabins!
