Editor's Note

We're a day late this week, and we're hoping the expression "Better late than never" applies.  Sometime Mother Nature pre-empts the best laid-plans of mice, men, and your editor.

New Officers Elected

At the annual meeting last week, the following officers were elected for terms beginning July 1, 2020:

President-Elect Nominee: Kevin Burnett
Secretary: Shim Abbasi
Directors:  Brett Doney and Dirk Smith

Congratulations to our new leaders ... and thank you for your willingness to serve.

This Week at Rotaryut

At our noon meeting on Tuesday, Bill Salinas will introduce an agent of the Cascade County Extension Service to tell us what's new in the county's extension services. The lucky 10 of diamonds eluded Gary Bjelland in last week's 50-50, so the pot will be fatter yet next week. Join us at noon at the country club!

There is no evening meeting next week.

Last Week at Rotary

Last week's noon meeting was dedicated to our annual meeting, during which we elect our officers. (See related story in this issue.) In the absence of our president and president-elect, President-Elect Nominee Lacey Gallagher filled in ably.

While the votes were being counted, Lacey called on David Cameron to initiate his book reports. At a previous meeting David had challenged members to create a Rotary library by reading books of interest to Rotarians, donating them to our "library" at the country club, and giving a short report to the membership. Both David and    Dr. Chuck Jennings gave reports.

David's report focused on the origins of plumbing in the Roman empire that was as notable for its scatalogical humor as for its historical information. Those Romans!  Dr. Jennings reported on mosquitoes and the impact malaria has had on history, particularly military history. Upon request from the membership, he had also read an article on polio in Montana published in Montana Magazine of Western History and summarized that article as well.

The evening members heard a reprise of the presentation from Heather Palermo on her leadership experience at Oxford last fall.

Milestones

January is the anniversary month for  several  Rotarians. Honorary member Ken Munski holds the longevity record for the month. This would be his 32nd anniversary as a Rotarian. Also celebrating membership anniversaries this month are:
  • Tom Nelson - 17 years
  • Shannon Hoiland - 15 years
  • Channing Hartelius - 14 years
  • Kevin Langkiet - 1 year
Thanks to all of you for all you contribute to Rotary Club of Great Falls !

 Weekly Wisdom

Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of  the world.
All things break. And all things can be mended.
Not with time, as they say, but with intention.
So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally.
The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is you.
