Last Week at Rotary

Last week we heard from the second of three candidates for a seat on Montana’s Supreme Court, Judge Dirk Sandefur.  Born and raised in Great Falls, Judge Sandefur worked his way through college and law school at the University of Montana. He has been a police officer, a practicing attorney, a deputy county attorney, and since 2002, a state district judge in Great Falls.

Judge Sandefur believes that this variety of perspectives on the law, as well as his working-class background, will serve him well on the Supreme Court. He emphasized his experience as a judge in particular as the quality that distinguishes him from other candidates. When asked about the common complaint about courts legislating from the bench, he assured Rotarians that he is committed to the rule of law and to applying the law as written.

This Week at Rotary

This week we'll hear from Lacey Spencer about United Way's newest initiative, Prosperity Matters. Join us at noon at the country club!

Rotarians ... Get Snowed!

What do Rotarians do during a record-breaking spring blizzard? Facebook posts give us some idea ....

Art Taft posted videos of the impressive snowdrifts in the North Country.

Aaron Weissman packed another pair of socks for the weekend's Boy Scout activity.

Country cousin Carey Gray dealt with being snowed in and out of power outside Fairfield.

Mary Moe thought of the people using our bus shelters in the inclement weather and penned an op-ed on the importance of keeping those shelters in place.

Glenn Lambert had the sad duty of attending a funeral in Gildford. The roads were horrid on the way, but looking back at the end of the day, Glenn captured this lovely photo of the Sweetgrass Hills. A good reminder that even in darkness, even in snow, even in solitude, beauty shines through.

Rotary Events in April

Please excuse the inaccurate report about the History Museum's Legacy Awards Dinner and Auction in last week's bulletin. The dinner is on Friday, April 29. See President Tim Peterson if you're interested in attending.

The District 5390 Rotary Annual Conference is this week from April 22-24 at Fairmont Hot Springs.

Milestones

Ian Davidson completed his 55th year as a Rotarian this month. Wow! Just wow.

Weekly Wisdom: Paul Revere's Ride

A hurry of hoofs in a village street,
A shape in the moonlight, a bulk in the dark,
And beneath, from the pebbles, in passing, a spark
Struck out by a steed flying fearless and fleet;
That was all! And yet, through the gloom and the light,
The fate of a nation was riding that night;
And the spark struck out by that steed, in his flight,
Kindled the land into flame with its heat.
