Last Week at Rotary

Last week was highlighted by the awarding of badges to three new Rotarians. Rick Regh of JCCS received his blue badge; and Michael Duchemin, Executive Director of the C.M. Russell Museum of Art, and Lt. Jeremy Reedy, of the Salvation Army, received their red badges. It's exciting to see the club replenished from so many sectors of our community.

Our featured speaker was Tracy Houck, Executive Director of the Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art. "The Square" has been a part of Great Falls for 125 years now, and although its programming has changed over those years, education has always been at the core of its mission. In addition to classes for budding artists, including classes specifically accommodating people with disabilities, the Square hosts visiting artists, promoting their work and, in doing so, the arts themselves. Right now, for example, PGS has on display the "Montana Clay" exhibit, featuring the clay pieces of 65 artists.

The Square welcomes your grandchildren, your out-of-state guests, and you! Small wonder that in the last year they've had 23,193 visitors walk through their doors! Just another venue that makes Great Falls great!

This Week in Rotary

As of press time, our speaker for this week's meeting is still unconfirmed. We think we will hear from Montana's insurance commissioner, Monica Lindeen. If not, our very own Sophia Sparklin has graciously agreed to give us her insights on the cultural differences between Germany and the United States. Either presenter is sure to be fascinating! Join us at noon at the country club.

And don't forget: After our meeting are two events: the dictionary distribution (see To-Do List, below), a very short project, and the annual Rotarian Golf Tournament. (Tons of fun. Contact Mike Wier if you haven't signed up yet!)

To-Do List

Dictionary Project

Our club's state-renowned dictionary project is about to enter a new decade! Yes, we've been delivering 1500 dictionaries to 3rd-graders in 58 schools throughout the Great Falls area for 10 years now. The kids love it - and the teachers do too. The sign-up sheet started making the rounds at last week, and we only have 19 schools left to cover. If you want to sign up for one of the remaining 19 schools, call Denise Gray at 453-1163. She'll get you all set, as only Denise can.

Highway Clean-up

The fall clean-up is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 24. Please notify either John Koppelman or Fred Anderson if you can help. Plan to meet at 5:15 in the KRTV parking lot, and if you have a 4-wheeler, bring it. (It really speeds up the process!)

Milestones

Happy birthday tomorrow to Virginia Stacey. Pound for pound, it's pretty hard to find a better mover, hauler, and shaker than our Virginia. Best wishes, dear fellow Rotarian!
