Last Week's Rotary Presentation

Last week we heard from fellow Rotarian Sheila Rice on the very timely topic of the Thaniel addition. Sheila said that 97 homes are planned for the development, and as with other NeighborWorks projects, prospective homeowners help one another build the homes and no one moves in until all homes are complete. In addition to the homes, a 17+-acre park is incorporated in the design; this green space comprises 11% of the total development. The park will be open to the public and will have a trail circling the development. Although business/commercial development is not part of the current plan, that possibility has not been closed off. Certainly, the need for amenities nearby would be a convenience to folks in the area and a good business opportunity.

Sheila said that the main question developers are being asked is how the city will sustain this additional commitment with a budget that is already thin. The solution, she reported, is a yearly $93 fee for residents within the Thaniel addition.

We were pleased to welcome as guests Tom Nelson's daughter, Taylor, and his parents, Don and Marge, who were very interested in hearing Sheila's presentation.

Board News

At last week's monthly meeting, the board of directors of Rotary Club of Great Falls approved the language change in the bylaws needed to effect the change in dues approved by the membership and the manner of billing instituted by the board. The board also drafted a written process for moving new members through application and orientation to full blue-badge membership.

Rotarians Refresh!

This month three years ago, the ranks of our club were refreshed by two wonderful women: Kathy Mora and Susan Wolff. Their contributions to the club are already so deep that it's hard to believe they've only been among us for three years.

The two women share other similarities. Both are leaders and public servants, Kathy steering the course for our city library and Susan doing the same for our local two-year college. Both are consummate professionals, adept in their areas of expertise and unfailingly kind to all the unique individuals that comprise the public they serve. And both think nothing of rolling up their sleeves for Rotary. Kathy welcomes us at each weekly meeting, and Susan does the long, hard work associated with the silent auction at Harvest Howl.

That's the tip of the iceberg for both women. Thank you, Kathy and Susan, for your service and especially for your example. May your 3 years in Rotary Club of Great Falls multiply ten-fold!

Milestones

Art Taft gives new meaning to the hymn "How Great Thou Art" this Wednesday as he celebrates yet another birthday. Friday is the next birthday of immediate past president, Cheryl Crawley. What both individuals have done for our club can't be captured in "Milestones." Suffice it to say HB2U!

Weekly Wisdom:

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time ....
