Harvest Howl is this Friday! We start setting up Thursday evening, will be in set-up mode all day Friday, and will be staffing the event all Friday night. We need all hands on deck.
We are in particular need of more desserts for the dessert auction (contact Nicole Michelotti), more staffers for the silent auction (contact Rob Rezek), and more volunteers in general (contact Carey Gray).
Please volunteer for at least two duties, and that will keep a few people from being overburdened. "Overburdened" is the pre-condition to "burnout" and we don't want that!
Rotarians Are ... Unsinkable!
Tom Nelson took one for the team recently, agreeing to take a dip at the Sip 'n Dip for the Harvest Howl cause. He comported himself swimmingly and raked in $1,500 (three tables) for Harvest Howl! Greater love than this, no merman hath.
Last Week at Rotary
Last week we heard from Phillips County Commissioner Leslie Robinson and Malta-area rancher Nancy Ereaux as a counterpoint to a previous presentation we had on the American Prairie Alliance. These ranchwomen expressed concern about the effects of the APA movement. They are especially concerned that one effect will be locking up land use for bison, which they believe will have adverse repercussions on agriculture.
Farming and ranching accounts for a huge portion of the economy in Malta and in Montana. As the world population increases, the need to increase ag production increases too. Our presenters encouraged us to consider the local economy and the global need as we weigh the value of the American Prairie Alliance initiative.
This Week in Rotary
This week our featured presenter is Kelsey Mahoney, who will tell us about the current status of women in Montana and how we can help women go from just surviving to thriving. As the final meeting before Harvest Howl, it's also crucially important to get together and make sure we've got all the bases covered.
As if those things weren't reason enough to attend, the 50-50 deck is SKINNY! Join us at noon at the country club.
Mea Culpa!
Aargghh! Your indefatigable bulletin reporter/editor, who won the city-wide Billings Spelling Bee in 1960 (fittingly, the winning word was "criticize"), appears to have lost the knack. She messed up big time last week.
Tyler Hentzen is the correctly spelled name of last bulletin's 3-minute talker, and he is not the manager of Scheel's yet. He's the events coordinator.
Sorry, Tyler! And congratulations on getting your blue badge last week!
Milestones
Today Shannon Hoiland celebrates another year of life. Best wishes for a happy day and another happy year, Shannon!
Weekly Wisdom on Making a Difference
"You honor me today, but there are so many people who make a difference in Great Falls. Where would the Great Falls Symphony be without M.A. Roberts? Where would city beautification be without Molly Person? We wouldn't have a mental health center without Bill and Joan-Nell Macfadden. And where would the YWCA be without Judy Ericksen?"
Nancy Davidson, upon receiving the Great Falls Chamber's "We Stand Tall" Award
October 28, 2015
“Never forget that you are one of a kind. Never forget that if there weren't any need for you in all your uniqueness to be on this earth, you wouldn't be here in the first place. And never forget, no matter how overwhelming life's challenges and problems seem to be, that one person can make a difference in the world. In fact, it is always because of one person that all the changes that matter in the world come about. So be that one person.”
R. Buckminster Fuller
Make a difference this week in the life of a child who will someday visit Camp Rotary and be transformed by the experience. That transformation really does happen, you know. Help out with Harvest Howl 2015.
