This week in both noon and 5:30 meetings, we'll hear a 40-year retrospective on NeighborWorks, an incredible community asset. Join us on Zoom! President Yturri will send the links by email.
For your planning, we will not be meeting in person until Phase 3 of Governor Bullock's re- opening plan.
Last Week in Rotary
Last week fellow Rotarian Zach Swartz gave a presentation on Zoom on the Breakthrough Leadership program he participated in at the University of Montana. Featuring a combination of national experts and UM faculty, Zach learned both the philosophy and practice of effective leadership strategies.
Before even beginning the program, Zach completed a “leadership circle” assessment, in which 10-12 co-workers – some in supervisory roles, some in equivalent roles and some direct reports – rated his leadership strengths.
During the course of the program, he learned to balance creativity with reactivity and to expect that getting out of his comfort zone would require “embracing the pit” – a period of uneasiness that is necessary to growth. He also learned to use a series of questions to apply to decision-making and to “lead with intention,” using humility, generosity, respect and influence as the situation warrants.
A fascinating exploration of a topic important to us all!
Updates
Camp Rotary Committee Chair John Juras let us know last wek that the committee has decided to delay many of the cleaning tasks typically performed at this time. Until the Forest Service lifts its COVID-19 restrictions, camps cannot be scheduled and a cleanup crew cannot exceed 10 people. A small crew of Rotarians are doing some preliminary work this weekend.
Not being able to meet in person during this pandemic has had at least one positive effect. President Yturri recently announced that our luncheon fees during this period have been donated to GFPS Foundation/HANDS program so that kids don’t go hungry. That $3,600 will have a huge impact on the well-being of our local school children!
Just a reminder that the Rotary Board Minutes are published in ClubRunner under View Club Documents on the Administration page - the page that automatically opens upon log in. The next board meeting is Tuesday, May 12, at 5:30 on Zoom.
District 5390 News
President Cari Yturri and President-Elect Nominee Lacey Gallagher recently attended a District 5390 meeting. There, they voted for our RI Council Representative and reviewed the current financials. They also learned what various clubs around the state are doing to keep members engaged. Of particular interest was this inspirational video from the Townsend Interact Club.
Levi Merkel, the District RYLA Chairperson, informed participants that the RYLA Summit will be held on June 24. They want us to reach out to the current RYLA applicants and past alumni and hold a "prefunction" event before the online summit event. Details on the Summit can be found on the District website: https://montanarotary.org/sitepage/ryla.
The District plans to hold a District Assembly on August 14-15 at Fairmont Hot Springs.
